The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of -School Children Education (NCAOOSCE), Hon. Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his commitment towards strengthening the education sector with a promised budgetary allocation to 25 per cent.
Sharada said this while addressing stakeholders at a high-level policy dialogue programme organised by the British Government, Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Partnership for Learning for All in Nigerian Education (PLANE) in Abuja.
The event which the offices of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on School Feeding and Special Adviser on Diaspora participated in, is focused on addressing challenges of Almajiri and out-of-school children through a multi-sectoral approach and strategic engagement.
In his opening remarks, Sharada commended President Tinubu on his effort towards repositioning education in the country.
He said: “At this point, let me use this medium to respectfully commend the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Armed Bola Tinubu, GCFR, for demonstrating commitment towards strengthening the education sector with a hopeful budgetary increase to about 25 per cent.”
The ES also maintained that the dialogue came at the inception of the Commission whose primary mandate is the delivery of an inclusive and effective education system in public, private, Islamiyah, Quranic and Tsangaya schools in all the States with existing schools.
“This undertaking will combine with the initial design of PLANE to dedicate Kaduna, Kano and Jigawa States as focal States for similar educational delivery to address the gaps in the Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education across the country,” Sharada said.
While commending organisers of the event, he said that the outcome of the dialogue will be utilised to consolidate the existing operational manuals/guidelines for the Commission.
“In the same vein, the dialogue will provide a platform for policy makers to carry out a situation analysis of the Almajiri and Out-of-School Children in Nigeria to guide the designing of the Commission's Operational Guideline and Strategic Plan to facilitate collaboration and multi-sectoral response to the Almajiri and Out-of-School Children issues in Nigeria.
“However, it’s significant to inform participants in this dialogue that the Federal Ministry of Education has developed operational guidelines which were consolidated by further input from the Commission,” Sharada said.
